Sea Moss & Irish Moss

Chondrus crispus, more commonly known as Irish moss and it’s closely related species, Genus Gracilaria, also know as sea moss are two superfoods that are almost necessary now. Irish moss and sea moss grows naturally along the rocky parts of the Atlantic Ocean mainly between mainland Europe and America.  While sea moss grows year round, irish moss is seasonal and is more potent than sea moss. Sea moss and Irish moss are two incredibly powerful and impactful superfoods mainly due to them being packed with important nutrients. Sea moss includes the nutrients Vitamin B2, Vitamin B12, Calcium, Chromium, Magnesium, and Zinc. Irish moss and Sea moss has always been a staple in alternative medicine, but it wasn’t until the early 21st century when the claims got backed by studies and research.

BLADDERWRACK

Fucus vesiculosus, generically known as bladderwrack is one of the most beneficial species of seaweed that everyone needs. Bladderwrack is a type of brown seaweed that grows naturally on the northern Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States and on the northern Atlantic coast and Baltic coast of Europe. Bladderwrack is a nutrient, vitamin, and mineral-rich superfood as well. Bladderwrack includes calcium, iodine, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, and vitamins A and C. Bladderwrack helps prevent vitamin deficiency and helps keep your skin healthy.

Bladderwrack contains the antioxidant fucoidan. This antioxidant promotes collagen synthesis in the skin which helps heal skin and delay premature aging. Bladderwrack is rich in other antioxidants, such as phlorotannins, fucoxanthin and alginic acid. Phlorotannins and fucoxanthin are known for their high antioxidant activity and ability to scavenge free radicals. Free radicals are harmful compounds that can damage cells and lead to chronic disease and premature aging.

This tree grows naturally in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Soursop is a vitamin and mineral-rich superfood. Soursop is a good source of folate, iron, and vitamin c.

Studies show that soursop contains potent antibacterial abilities as well. In one test-tube study, extracts of soursop with different concentrations were used on different types of bacteria and soursop was able to efficiently kill off multiple types of bacteria, including strains that cause gingivitis, tooth decay, and yeast infections.

Soursop also has the benefit of helping stabilize blood sugar levels. In one study, diabetics were injected with soursop extract for two weeks. Those who received the extract had blood sugar levels that were two times lower than the untreated group.
